The technology is based on the philosophy of controlling access at the edge of the network while establishing policy control centrally, IP3's NetAccess and NetAccess™ Central Manager devices work in concert to provide an entire access control system on its own, or simply augments the existing security infrastructure (avoiding costly "rip and replace" systems).
Second Rule LLC has now evolved the product line to support multi-hundred megabit performance and support for thousands for simultaneous users.
Access control and service delivery are deployed via multi-layer portal technology (MLPT). MLPT allows administrators of the system to create multiple independent captive portals. These portals can exist locally on the NetAccess™ appliance, or via an integrated external central portal. Each portal can contain its own service, authentication, or payment options to offer users of different network segments a customized experience and service offering.
The first customers of IP3's solutions were service providers such as Wireless ISPs, Hot Spot operators, and hoteliers. These customers were similar in that their driving requirements were to be able to identify who was accessing their networks (authentication), charge them for the access (usage tracking), control the network resources used (rate limiting) all without requiring any support from their already burdened staff (plug-and-play). IP3's system offered these service providers a simple to deploy network appliance that integrates with the existing hotel network infrastructure seamlessly and a comprehensive yet flexible feature set to enable them to create and deliver value added services.
Since those first deployments, customers in other industry sectors such as Education, Military, Healthcare, Enterprise and Transportation have come to realize the benefit of being able to control users to their networks. Second Rule LLC has now evolved the product line to support multi-hundred megabit performance and support for thousands for simultaneous users. Additional features have been added to support fail-over redundancy between devices and integration with a wide variety 3rd party systems via a fully documented, published API.
